Herend Expands Queen Victoria Blue and Pink Dinnerware Collections

—Adds Thirteen Serving Pieces to Each Collection—

STERLING, VA, July 8, 2008…Herend will add thirteen serving pieces to the “Queen Victoria Blue and Pink” dinnerware patterns at the Atlanta International Gifts & Home Furnishings Market, July 8-16.  The pieces will be on display in the Herend showroom in Suite 907 of the Atlanta Gift Mart.

“Herend’s ‘Queen Victoria’ pattern is one of our earliest and most popular dinnerware patterns,” said Maureen Ellis, director of marketing for Herend in the U.S.  “It is a classic and timeless design that dates back to 1851 when Queen Victoria, after which the pattern is named, bought the first set for Windsor Castle.  Due to the complexity of the pattern and the number of firings required, it can take up to eight hours to paint a single dinner plate.  The intricate pattern requires the painting skills of the most experienced and talented Herend painters.”

The Queen Victoria dinnerware pattern with its butterfly and floral motif inspired by ancient Chinese designs is currently available in three colorways: the original green and newly added blue and pink.  Thirteen serving pieces are being added to the blue and pink collections ranging from a four-piece Tea and Coffee set to an impressive Tureen with a branch handle. Other pieces include a Chop Plate with handles (12-inch diameter),  Platter (15-inches long, 11 2/3-inches wide), Ribbon Tray (15 ¾-inches long, 22-inches wide), Rim Soup (8-inch diameter), Round Bowl (7 ½-inch diameter), Square Cake Plate with handles (9 ½-inch square), Square Fruit Dish (11-inch square), and a Triangle Dish (9 ½-inches long).  Suggested retail prices range from $140 for a Creamer to $1,320 for the Tureen.

Since its founding in 1826, Herend has consistently maintained a level of superior artistic excellence that places it head and shoulders above all others.  The Manufactory employs 530 painters to hand paint each exquisite porcelain piece with many items made by hand such as the open work items, several of the finials and woven baskets.

Herend is imported by Martin’s Herend Imports, a family-owned and operated company, founded by Robert and Lois Grimm in 1957.  The Grimms had the vision and insight to bring the line into the U.S. 51 years ago when Hungary was under Communist rule.  Today, the reins of the business are in the capable hands of their daughter, Dianne Grimm Murphy, and her daughter, Kimberley Kimball.
