Herend Adds Three Figurines to Popular Collections

At Spring Tabletop Market

STERLING, VA, April 9, 2008…Herend will introduce three figurines at the New York Tabletop Market, April 9-13.  These new pieces will be shown at the Herend Showroom located at 41 Madison Avenue on the 10th floor.

“Since Spring is reputed to be the time for love, two of our new figurines, the ‘Kissing Sea Lions’ and the ‘Kissing Swans,’ will reinforce the spirit of Spring, as well as make great wedding and anniversary gifts,” commented Maureen Ellis, director of marketing for Herend in the U.S.  “The third figure appeals to another crowd, those interested in all things Gothic since it is a beautifully rendered ‘Skull.’ ”

The Kissing Sea Lions (7 ˝-inches wide, 3-inches high) is the newest addition to Herend’s Aquatic Collection.  This romantic composition portrays the sense of hesitancy in a first kiss.  Herend artists have painted their flippers with multi-color stripes to complement the detailed fishnet pattern.  Suggested retail price is $770.

An exquisite flowing sculpture that emphasizes the delicate curve of the swan’s’ necks, the Kissing Swans (6 ˝-inches wide, 3 ˝-inches high) celebrates love.  The figurine is the newest member in Herend’s Waterfowl Collection.  Twenty-four karat gold accents the beak, tail and wings.  Suggested retail price is $555.

Perhaps Herend’s Skull (2-inches tall) was inspired by a recent interest in Gothic inspired home furnishings, although the image has been around for a very long time.  The eye sockets, nose, mouth and book binding are accented with 24-karat gold.  It joins the Folk & Fairytale Collection.  Suggested retail price is $200.

Each figurine is strikingly interpreted in seven shaded fishnet colors, including blue, black, butterscotch, chocolate, green, raspberry and rust.

Herend’s fishnet patterned figurines are recognized around the world and collected for many reasons including their charm and realism.  The fishnet pattern is individually hand painted by a Herend artist who is specially trained in this skill.  It takes considerable discipline and a steady hand to hand paint this free form style design so that it fits the contours of the individual figurines.  Thus, the reason that no two figurines are ever identical!  As the finishing touch, the artist places his or her personal identification number on the bottom of every piece to authenticate that it is an original piece of Herend porcelain art.

To assist collectors, Herend has organized hundreds of figurines into fourteen collections: Aquatic, Aviary, Baby Animals, Bunny, Domestic, Farmyard, Folk & Fairytale, Forest, Jungle, Meadow, Miniature, Safari, Waterfowl and Kingdom Classic.

Herend was founded in 1826, and now celebrates its 182nd year of creating handcrafted porcelain that meets the same exacting standards as practiced in early years.

Family-owned and operated Martin’s Herend Imports has imported Herend to the U.S. since 1957, and is located in Virginia.
